Another fun weekend

We had our 3rd wedding in a row this 3rd weekend in July. They've all been friends of Dan's since grade/high school. Here is a picture of us at the wedding.
After the wedding, we invited some friends over to our house. The hot tub and pool got some use. The next morning, Sebastien thought it was funny to play with Gwynie through the screen door. We headed up to Lake Winnipesaukee on Sunday morning for a joint "going away" party for Danny Mayotte who is moving to Seattle and a "meet & greet" with baby Owen Mayotte. Here is a picture of mommy & Sebastien at the party. It was a gorgeous day. Sebastien still is not a fan of the lake water, although he finally decided that he likes grass.
Sebastien was being very social and crawling over to groups of people he'd never met and pulling himself up on them. Since we only have a week of the helmet left (woo-hoo!) we decided it was ok for him not to wear it to the party.

"Stand in the place where you live"

I named this entry like I did because all Sebastien wants to do these days is stand. You'll see more below. We had a nice weekend. Dan & I had a wedding to go to Friday night. The wedding was held in Danvers, MA at an 1800s mansion and grounds. There were very cool old trees. Below is us at the wedding.
The next day, I took Sebastien to meet up with some friends at a park/beach in Beverly, MA. Below Sebastien tries to take off my friend Terry's hat. Sebastien doesn't like sitting on the grass, so I had to put a sheet down.
His favorite thing to do now is pull himself up on things. Stuff on our coffee table is no longer safe.
Troublemakers! Gwynnie shows Sebastien how it's done.
We ended the weekend by going on a short hike in the nature preserve near our house. We have a great big hiking baby carrier backpack. I wanted to take a picture of Sebastien in it while he rode on Dan's back but I forgot my camera. Sebastien loves riding in it, but this time he fell asleep with his head resting on Dan's head by the end.

9 Month Check-Up

Sebastien had his 9 month checkup today and is growing right along. He is 95th percentile in height (30.25 in) and weight (25 lbs). He has finally mastered real crawling and is no longer "military" crawling. He has also started pulling himself up to a stand near the couch, coffee table, etc. One morning he crawled up onto the fireplace. He also was standing up in his crib this morning when I went in to get him. Ai-yai-yai...a glimpse of what's to come. On another good note, he will be out of the helmet in 2-3 weeks. His asymmetry measurement used to be 11mm before the helmet and now it's down to 4mm (3 mm is normal). Hooray!

OCRACOKE ISLAND VACATION!

We just got back from our family vacation to Ocracoke Island, NC. It was wonderful. It started off with a 10 hr train ride from Boston to Richmond, VA. Sebastien did very well and made friends with many strangers. Both on the way there and on the way back, he was being held and played with by many strangers who had him laughing and squealing. People liked to see him do his military crawl down the aisle. After meeting Brian, Crisin, Mom & Dad Szakaly in Richmond, we set out for NC the next day. Once in Cape Hatteras, we had to take a ferry to NC, which is the picture below.
We rented a beach house on the island for the week. It was beautiful, aside from the salty taste to the water. Here is a shot of the inside.
In pure Marty Szakaly fashion, we went to see some historical things, including the Cape Hatteras lighthouse and museum. Below is a picture of us (minus Dan & Sebastien) in front of the Ocracoke lighthouse.
Beach time! This was our first trip to the beach. At the beaches there, you drive your car onto the sand. Here is Granpa Marty & Grammy Patty under the canopy. Sebastien plays nearby.

Beach baby, beach baby

Here's what the house looked like from the front. Brian can be seen walking his dog Cooper. Cristin's parents, Mac & Judy McDonnell, came up on Wednesday to stay and brought Cooper.
The backporch of the house was great. It overlooked the sound. Here's Brian, Cristin, and Mac.

Sebastien's sleep schedule was very off all week. Instead of sleeping 8-7 like he normally does at home, here he slept from about 9-6. This picture was taken at exactly 6:00AM one morning. You can see Frank the Pelican (named by previous guests in the house) perched on his pole.
One day we went on a tour of Portsmouth island, which is a deserted island off of Ocracoke. Our guides took us over by small boat and then we drove ATVs around the island. Below is the ATV driven by Mickey.
Here's what's left of a sea turtle.

Kim & Brian in the ATV. After shelling for a bit, we drove down miles and miles of beautiful deserted beach. We saw some sea turtle nests too. Unfortunately bas weather was headed our way so we had to cut the trip short and didn't get to see the ghost town part of the island.
Check out the ominous weather. We could feel the air changing from warm to cold. It was scary! We made it back just in time.
Sunkissed!
Dan & Dad enjoyed the raw bar.
Uncle Brian met Sebastien for the first time this trip.
Dan dug Sebastien a little baby pool at the beach. Here he is enjoying it, even though it dried up.

Black & White pics from Becca

After the lake in Maine (see next post below), we headed to Nicole Mayotte's high school graduation party. Becca was experimenting with black & white pictures and I think she got some great ones. Here they are:

Weekend in Maine

This weekend we were invited up to the O'Donnell's lake house in Maine. Below is a picture of Rick, Nicki, and Luke O'Donnell in front of the cabin.
Sebastien discovered that he likes to eat dirt. I find this ironic because I have a hard time getting him to eat puffs (baby cereal), yet he willing eats dirt. Such a boy!
Yum - dirt!

Sebastien LOVED the hammock.
